La Vega. Three men were rescued this Monday afternoon after becoming trapped at the top of old food storage silos belonging to the Price Stabilization Institute (Inespre), in the municipality of La Vega.

According to General César Arturo Abreu, intendant of the La Vega Fire Department, the victims were at a height of about 35 meters when the ladder they were using to descend collapsed, leaving them unable to get down on their own.

The officer explained that the men were allegedly carrying out dismantling work on metal structures at the site without authorization from the authorities. During these actions, they reportedly removed an old pipe that was part of the warehouse system, without realizing that it was welded and supported part of the access structure.

According to the report, when the pipe detached, the staircase and part of the metal support collapsed, leaving the three workers trapped at the top of the silos.

La Vega Fire Department teams arrived at the scene and managed to carry out rescue operations, bringing the men to safety, who did not suffer serious injuries, according to the authorities.

The authorities are investigating the circumstances under which the incident occurred and the type of intervention that was being carried out on the Inespre structure.
