Santo Domingo Este.– The Permanent Attention court of Santo Domingo Este dictated this Wednesday three months of preventive prison against the members of the National Police and the Navy accused of sexually abusing and stripping money from a Haitian woman, an event that occurred on July 29th on España Avenue.
The decision establishes that Sergeant Clara Rosa Yoli Gerónimo will serve the measure in the Najayo Women’s prison, while the other implicated, Ronny Alberto Monzón Sánchez, Luis Ángel Taveras Herrera and Edwin Yurier Martínez Araujo, will serve the coercion in Special Operations.
The victim’s lawyer, Lucía Burgos, representing the Ministry of Women, expressed agreement with the court’s decision, considering that it guarantees security for the complainant while the process advances.
“We are satisfied with this measure, because from the beginning we have been ready to move forward in this case, and the most important thing is that the victim’s rights are preserved,” Burgos declared.
The Public Ministry accuses those accused of sexual assault, aggravated robbery, death threats with firearms, and abuse of power to the detriment of the Haitian citizen, who recounted through tears in the hearing the difficult moment she experienced.
