Mano Juan, Saona Island. — Mrs. Facunda Inoa Morales, known as “Berki,” is experiencing moments of deep concern after reporting an alleged eviction attempt that could leave her without the space where she has worked and supported her family for more than four decades at Playa Cacón.
According to her complaint, representatives of the Viva hotel allegedly attempted to move her from the area where she has operated for more than 40 years. Although she claims to be willing to make improvements and renovations to her stall, she refuses to be sent to a place far from the beach and the flow of visitors, which would directly affect her income and her livelihood.
“The only thing I ask is that they allow me to continue working where I have always been,” expressed the affected person, who claims that her presence at the location predates the establishment of the hotel complex.
The situation gains greater relevance because Mrs. Inoa Morales claims to have a favorable judicial record. Among the documents presented is a ruling issued in 2007 by the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeals of the Judicial Department of San Pedro de Macorís, related to her right to continue operating in the area.
The case has sparked solidarity from community members, tourism workers, and residents of Mano Juan, who believe that a woman who has dedicated more than 40 years of effort and work on Playa Cacón deserves a fair solution that respects her rights.
