Santo Domingo.– The Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, stated that the Public Ministry is prepared for the entry into force of the new Penal Code, assuring that the institution has strengthened its operational structure, staff training, and victim support mechanisms over the last year to respond to the provisions of the new legislation.
The magistrate explained that, through the Public Ministry School, an intensive training process was developed for prosecutors across the country, with the purpose of ensuring the correct application of the regulations.

Likewise, he indicated that a new class of career prosecutors is currently in training and that a new call for applications will soon be opened to continue strengthening the prosecuting body.
As part of the preparations, Reynoso reported that 100 new relief positions were enabled across the 37 judicial districts, with the aim of strengthening the response capacity of the prosecutor’s offices. Added to this is the incorporation of 140 lawyers who will be dedicated exclusively to providing comprehensive assistance to victims during judicial proceedings.
The attorney general maintained that the institution has the necessary human, technical, and logistical resources to assume the changes implied by the new legislation.
In that sense, he highlighted that the Public Ministry worked in advance to adapt its internal procedures and guarantee an orderly transition towards the new legal framework.
Reynoso recalled that the Public Prosecutor’s Office had proposed to the National Congress the need to update the Penal Code, considering that the previous legal framework had fallen behind in the face of new criminal modalities. He pointed out that the evolution of criminality and the use of technology made more modern legislation, in line with current reality, indispensable.
Among the main innovations of Law 74-25, the attorney general highlighted the incorporation of 70 new crimes and the reform of 109.
