Los Angeles. Veteran American actor James Handy, known for his roles in films such as Jumanji (1995), Top Gun: Maverick (2022), and Arachnophobia (1990), passed away at 81 after being stabbed at a residence in Los Angeles.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), officers responded around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, to a 911 call alerting them to an unknown situation at a residence located in the Tarzana area.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Handy unconscious in the front yard of the property, with multiple stab wounds to the chest. The actor was rushed to a nearby medical center, where he passed away shortly after.
Authorities identified the alleged perpetrator as 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, the son of the actor’s long-term romantic partner. According to police reports, Gledhill called 911 and confessed to the crime before voluntarily surrendering to officers.
The suspect was arrested on charges of homicide and remains in custody with bail set at two million dollars.
The Los Angeles Police Department described the event as an isolated incident and continues to investigate the circumstances of the crime, with no official motive determined as of yet.

Handy developed an artistic career spanning more than four decades, accumulating over 150 credits in film and television. He was widely recognized for playing supporting characters, including authority figures, doctors, and ordinary citizens.
