Gonzalo, Sabana Grande de Boyá.- Individuals occupying lands that have been distributed among them in the Boyá River basin are devastating trees, including those protected by law and others of various species, which provide water to the Boyá River, which supplies water to several municipalities through their aqueducts.
The felled and burned trees are royal palm, mahogany, mango, pigeon heart, ojancho, and other species endemic to the area. In addition, the topsoil has been removed with heavy equipment. On this same land, in 2020, politicians, social leaders, and environmentalists protested for the same reason, after denouncing that an ecocide had been committed, a situation that could repeat itself if these actions continue.
The same land had a gate placed on it in the year 2020, closing access to the river in clear violation of Law 64-00, and even having Dominican Army guards stationed there, where it is still mentioned that this land belongs to Colonel Rafael Núñez de Aza. Currently, several well-known figures, residents of Gonzalo and Los Limones, are being blamed for the devastation, allegedly in collusion with authorities who have distributed said land in portions of 6 and 8 tareas.

The whistleblowers called on the Ministry of Environment to intervene urgently and stop the destruction of the Boyá river basin, due to the importance of this water source, as it is the only river capable of supplying water through the Sabana Grande de Boyá aqueduct, as well as to thousands of families who depend on its waters in different areas of the Monte Plata province
