A 26-year-old tourist from the Netherlands died after the sightseeing boat he was riding overturned during an excursion on the Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls.
The victim was identified as Mark Lensink, who had traveled with his family to visit the popular destination shared by Brazil and Argentina.
According to the Paraná State Military Fire Department, the accident occurred when a boat operated by Macuco Safari capsized in the Iguazu River while approaching the waterfalls. Six Dutch tourists and two crew members, including the pilot and co-pilot, were on board.
Lensink, who was from the Dutch city of Rijssen, drowned and suffered cardiac arrest. He was rescued, received emergency medical care and was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
