At least seven people, including three children, were killed and 40 others injured in what Russian authorities described as a Ukrainian drone attack on civilians in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia.

According to regional governor Veniamin Kondratyev, debris from a drone fell in the village of Arkhipo-Osipovka, near the Black Sea resort town of Gelendzhik. Officials said several of the wounded are children.

Russian authorities stated that the strike hit a civilian area and described the casualties as the result of a deliberate attack. Emergency services responded to the scene, where the injured received medical attention while investigators assessed the damage.

Ukraine had not publicly commented on the incident at the time of publication, and the claims regarding the circumstances of the attack could not be independently verified.

The incident comes amid continued cross-border drone attacks between Russia and Ukraine as the conflict enters another year.
