Washington.- California Governor Gavin Newsom accused US President Donald Trump this Monday of using the Department of Justice to open an investigation against him, in retaliation, as he alleged, for his aspirations to run in the 2028 presidential election.
In a video posted on YouTube, Newsom—considered one of the potential Democratic candidates for the White House in the upcoming elections—stated that he is being investigated by federal authorities and that the Trump Administration is also targeting his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
“If they can’t intimidate me, they will go after the mother of our children,” said the governor, before warning: “Donald Trump chose the wrong target. We have nothing to hide.”

The accusation against the governor of California
“Donald Trump is not attacking me just because of my offensive tweets. He is doing it because I am considering running for president and because he hates that I have called out his lies and deceptions time and time again,” declared Newsom.
The California leader asserted that, after publicly calling for his arrest last year, Trump gave instructions to the Department of Justice to investigate him and said that in the last week he learned that the president’s order “has reached his own home.”
“You can subpoena my records, you can investigate me, you can stalk me, you can put my name on each and every one of your enemies lists,” he declared, addressing Trump, whom he asked to leave his family and his wife “out of his personal vendetta.”
“A man without character”
The state governor accused Trump of “selling the presidency” and described him as “a man without character,” whom he held responsible for having turned the office into an instrument at the service of his interests and those of his inner circle.
Newsom insisted that he has nothing to hide and that, if one really wants to find corruption, “one need look no further than the address of the White House.”
The Californian governor is one of the most critical figures regarding the head of state from California, the most populous state in the U.S. and the country’s main Democratic stronghold.
