The U.S. government announced Wednesday that it is offering more than $100 million in rewards for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of senior leaders of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of Mexico’s most powerful criminal organizations.
Speaking at the U.S. Department of Justice, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said the CJNG, which the Trump administration has designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization, is a “narco-terrorist” group that must be dismantled.
Among the announcements, U.S. authorities increased the reward for Juan Carlos Valencia González, also known as “Pelón,” to $25 million. He has been identified as the cartel’s new leader following the reported death of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho.”
The rewards are part of a broader effort by U.S. authorities, in coordination with the FBI, DEA and other federal agencies, to target the leadership and operations of the CJNG.
