Santo Domingo .- The Public Ministry requested pretrial detention as a coercive measure against a man accused of causing the death of his partner in an incident that occurred on August 2 in the La Zurza sector, in the National District.
The request was filed against Kauri Samuel Upia, charged with the death of Neliza Figueroa, the prosecuting body reported this Wednesday.

The hearing to determine the coercive measure was postponed until next August 7 by Judge Rigoberto Sena, of the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the National District, after accepting a request from the defense.
According to the Public Ministry’s investigation, the incident occurred around 11:30 at night in an apartment in La Zurza, where the defendant allegedly attacked the victim with a bladed weapon and a blunt object, causing wounds that led to their death.
According to the file, the incident occurred in the presence of the couple’s two minor children.
The investigation indicates that a witness went to the home after receiving an alert from one of the children and found the woman seriously injured, so they notified the 9-1-1 National Emergency and Security Response System.
The National Police arrested the accused at the scene, according to the Public Prosecutor’s version.
The prosecuting body maintains that there is evidence pointing to the fact that the man acted with premeditation and lying in wait, and therefore provisionally attributes to him violations of several articles of the Penal Code and Law 631-16 on the Control and Regulation of Weapons, Ammunition, and Related Materials.
