Escogido strengthens its rotation with the incorporation of pitcher Travis Lakins

SANTO DOMINGO. – The Leones del Escogido announced the hiring of right-handed pitcher Travis Lakins to reinforce their starting rotation, according to the Baseball Operations Management headed by general manager Carlos Peña.

Lakins, 31 years old, comes from a standout performance in the 2024-25 season with the Criollos de Caguas in the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (Puerto Rico), where he recorded a 3-2 record, an ERA of 2.10, a WHIP of 1.07, and 34 strikeouts in 34.1 innings.

During the summer he made his debut in the Mexican Baseball League with the Algodoneros de Unión Laguna, concluding with a record of 9-3, 75 strikeouts in 95.1 innings, a shutout and an ERA of 4.72.

The Lions’ new import also has experience in the Major Leagues, where he pitched between 2019 and 2022 with the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. In 68 appearances he accumulated 87.1 innings, with an ERA of 4.84 and 75 strikeouts.

His repertoire includes a four-seam fastball that reaches 93 mph, slider at 84 mph, changeup at 85 mph, curveball at 81 mph and sinker at 92 mph.

Lakins will replace in the reinforcement roster the Panamanian infielder Jonathan Araúz, whose contract recently concluded with the scarlet squad.
