Freddy Peralta solidifies as MLB wins leader and guides Brewers to shutout at Wrigley Field

CHICAGO. – Dominican Freddy Peralta once again showed why he is the ace of the Milwaukee Brewers. The right-hander earned his 15th win of the season, the most in all of Major League Baseball, and led the 7-0 shutout over the Chicago Cubs in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader at Wrigley Field.

In a challenging schedule of 19 games in 18 days, Peralta’s triumph came at the opportune moment for Milwaukee. The starter worked six scoreless innings, overcoming a brief loss of control in the fourth inning and limiting the Cubs’ bats, who were hamstrung throughout the afternoon. The offensive support came with solo home runs from Brice Turang and Caleb Durbin, who also drove in another run each to give the Brewers’ offense a breather.

Brewers, unstoppable at the Central

Milwaukee barely saw their record streak of 14 consecutive victories cut short on Sunday in Cincinnati, but quickly got back on the winning track. Since June 19, when the Cubs dominated the division with a 5.5-game lead, the story has changed dramatically: the Brewers have a record of 39-10, while Chicago is playing for 25-25, which has put Milwaukee with a 9.0-game lead in the National League Central before Monday night’s second game. “We’ve spent a lot of time planning the pitching,” said general manager Matt Arnold. “But there are always factors that change from day to day. The important thing is that we are prepared for any scenario.”

Heading towards a historic season

With a record of 15-5 and an effectiveness of 2.78, Peralta is shaping up as a candidate to reach 20 victories, a feat last achieved in the franchise by the Mexican Teodoro Higuera in 1986. In addition, along with relievers Abner Uribe, Jared Koenig and Grant Anderson, he signed the team’s 12th shutout in 2025.
