Eight teams star in LIDETA Christmas Cup in Tamayo
Tamayo, Bahoruco. – The “LIDETA Christmas Cup” tournament concluded with resounding success, held in this municipality with the participation of 8 teams and the so-called Zona Cañera, which involves towns belonging to the Consorcio Azucarero Central, formerly Ingenio Barahona.
The representative team of the Municipal District of Uvilla was crowned champion of the 1st. LIDETA Christmas Cup, which was dedicated to the journalist and head of information of the newspaper Listín Diario, Tomás Aquino Méndez, and to the Administrative Vice Minister of Social Management of the Presidency, Juan Garrigó Mejía.
The tournament, which attracted hundreds of fans during the regular, semifinal, and final stages, was organized by the Liga Deportiva Tamayo, led by the young athletes Roide Cuevas Jiménez, Wagner Geraldo, and Jairo Cuevas.
The last match, not for the faint of heart, with the final series tied at one, saw the Uvilla team leave through the front door of a tournament where discipline, fellowship and camaraderie reigned, full of color, typical of the Christmas holidays, and where the organizational capacity and the harmony of the protagonists (athletes) were demonstrated.
“This basketball tournament marks the beginning of a new era where local talent begins to develop to regain the sporting hegemony of this municipality of Tamayo,” the organizers assured.
The event had the important support of national and local personalities, whom the organizers thanked for their support and trust.
