While the Thunder dominated the Western Conference from the start, solidifying a nearly impeccable regular season, the Pacers emerged from behind, starting the year with a negative record and without leading the Eastern Conference standings at any point. However, both teams now converge in the grand basketball event.
“It’s two teams and one goal: the championship. Oklahoma City has been dominant all year. Defensively they are historic, and they have multiple players who can score,” commented Rick Carlisle, coach of the Pacers, highlighting the magnitude of the challenge.
The Thunder, led by a talented young roster, arrive with the best record since December 13 (61-13 between regular season and playoffs). Indiana is not far behind, registering the second-best performance in that same period (52-21).

“We know it’s not about winning four games at once. It’s about building one win at a time,” said Jalen Williams, Thunder guard.
The Pacers, for their part, defied the 50-1 odds to get here, eliminating teams like Milwaukee and New York along the way. Their leader, Tyrese Haliburton, attributes the success to the group’s mentality: “We focus on the present. Not on the past or the future. That has been the key.”
Both teams will seek to be crowned champions for the first time in decades. The Thunder hasn’t won since their time as the Seattle SuperSonics in 1979, while Indiana has never achieved an NBA title.
