Santo Domingo.— The Dominican basketball immortal and manager of the national basketball team, José “Maíta” Mercedes, positively assessed the performance of the national team and the accommodation and food conditions that the athletes are receiving during the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.

During a tour of the Olympic Village, Mercedes expressed feeling satisfied with both the competitive aspect and the attention received by the Dominican delegation.

“We feel very good both in terms of the competitive side and the accommodation and food here at the Village. Truly preferential treatment,” he/she expressed.

The manager explained that the Dominican basketball team has already completed the regular phase of the competition and is focused on the semifinal stage, with their sights set on reaching the gold medal match.

“Today we enter the semifinal stage, hoping to reach the goal, which is to compete for the gold medal,” noted Mercedes.

Facing the decisive matches, the coach acknowledged that the team must make some adjustments to reduce errors and raise their level of play.

He indicated that during the previous matches there were issues related to the pace of play and some technical aspects, situations that they have been working on to arrive in better condition for the crucial phase of the tournament.

“We have tried to refine them so that at this moment, which is crucial, we make as few mistakes as possible,” he stated.

Mercedes also took the opportunity to call on the Dominican public to support the national team in this stage of the competition and to come to the Arena Banreservas to accompany the players in their quest for the gold medal.
