Dominican Republic defeats Panama and advances to the U12 World Cup semifinals

Tainan, Taiwan.– Dominican Republic achieved its second victory in the U12 Baseball World Cup by defeating Panama 10-3, in its third presentation of the regular series, which is held in Tainan, Taiwan.

The Dominicans took the lead in the second inning and were never at a disadvantage. The dominance was clear, as the Panamanians failed to react or endanger the Quisqueyan victory. With this triumph, the Dominican Republic improves its record to 2-1, with two games pending: this Sunday, at 10:30 at night (Dominican time), it will face South Africa, a game that is shaping up to be an accessible victory; and next Tuesday, from 2:30 in the morning, it will play the most difficult game against the United States. Qualification to the super round (round robin) was secured with this victory over Panama.

The races

Second entry:
Dominican Republic scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning. Carlos Rodríguez received a walk, and after Marvin Rodríguez struck out, he stole second base. Dileccio Pérez grounded out 4-3; Yeison De los Santos received another walk and Yosuel Kelly singled to left field, driving in Rodríguez and putting the Dominican Republic ahead.

Third inning:
Elvin Mercedes opened the inning with a fly ball to left field. Then, Erick Claudio hit a double between left and center field. Luis Manuel Parra was hit by a pitch, and the bases were loaded after a walk to Carlos Rodríguez. Marvin Rodríguez hit a single that drove in two runs, extending the lead.

Fourth inning:
Dominican bats produced again with a three-run home run by Luis Manuel Parra to right field, scoring Elvin Mercedes and Erick Claudio.

Panama debuted in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs after a single by Yassith Concepción, who drove in Joseph Cousins. Then, Concepción scored on two illegal moves (balk) by Dominican pitcher Jadiel Zayas.

Fifth inning:
The Dominican offense continued with three more runs. Jadiel Zayas hit a two-run home run and Elvin Mercedes scored on an error by the Panamanian shortstop.

Sixth inning:
Carlos Rodríguez scored the tenth Dominican run after a ground ball to first base.

Panama opened the bottom of the inning with a solo home run by Yassith Concepción, their best hitter of the game (3-2, with two runs scored and two RBIs), but it was not enough to reverse the score.

Despite his good offensive performance, Concepción was the losing pitcher. He worked three innings, allowed three runs and four hits.

In the pitching, Yostin Gómez opened for the Dominican Republic, working three innings and two-thirds, with two hits, two runs, two walks, and three strikeouts. Then, Jadiel Zayas pitched one and a third innings without allowing any walks and struck out one, earning the victory. Jean Carlos Cruz allowed the home run in the sixth inning, but closed the game with three consecutive strikeouts.
