The permit was granted by the Barcelona City Council and corresponds to phase 1c of the modernization project of the FC Barcelona stadium, located in the Les Corts neighborhood. With this authorization, the provisional capacity of the stadium will increase by approximately 17,000 seats compared to the current capacity of 45,000 spectators. The license includes the opening of the two amphitheaters located in the north goal sector of the enclosure, and is added to the permits previously granted for phases 1a and 1b, which cover the areas of the grandstand, side and south goal in the first stands. Thanks to this expansion, next Sunday’s league match against Sevilla FC can be played before a larger audience, also coinciding with the elections for the presidency of the Catalan club. When the renovation works are completely finished, the stadium will reach a capacity close to 105,000 spectators, becoming one of the largest sports venues in Europe. The acting president of the club, Rafael Yuste, described the authorization as great news for the institution, highlighting that it will allow them to have tens of thousands of fans supporting the team in the stadium. In addition, the club plans to enable around 14,000 new season tickets for members in the north goal area, as well as about 1,200 seats in the south goal sector for the fans’ animation space.
