Eric Garcia renews with Barcelona until June 2031

Barcelona (EFE).- Eric Garcia (Martorell, Barcelona, 2001) has renewed his contract with FC Barcelona for five more seasons, until June 30, 2031, as announced this Friday by the azulgrana entity.

The signing will take place next Thursday, December 11, at 13:30h and afterwards the player will attend the media. Eric Garcia, a product of La Masia, had different offers to leave the Barcelona club, one of them from PSG coached by Luis Enrique, but has decided to accept the renewal. And it is that he is the most used player by Hansi Flick at the beginning of the season. The Catalan player has taken advantage of each of the opportunities that the coach gives him. When Jules Kounde faltered on the right flank, Eric was there; when Araujo or Christensen didn’t have Flick’s trust; the one from Martorell partnered with Pau Cubarsí. If Frenkie de Jong, or Pedri, were injured; Eric García played, and very well, in the center midfield. He has even been lined up for a match (Real Sociedad) as a left-back. So Eric García has played 1,510 minutes, 1,145 in LaLiga and 365 in the Champions League, for a total of 20 matches, in which he has played eleven times as a center-back, five as a right-back, three as a defensive midfielder and once as a left wing-back.

Eric Garcia, the Most Used

It is the most used in a list in which the second, Jules Kounde, has played almost one hundred minutes less (1,415) and the rest are far below in terms of participation: Rashford (1,248), Lamine Yamal (1,237), Frenkie de Jong (1,214) and Pedri (1,203). Eric García is the typical product of the Barcelona youth academy, but he has been gradually shaped in other clubs. He spent three seasons at Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, in which he played 35 games. He returned to Barça in the summer of 2021 and in the first stage he didn’t have much prominence, until in the 23-24 season he went on loan to Girona of Míchel Sánchez. There, he was decisive, played everything (31 games), scored five goals and made a brutal leap in quality. His performance was exquisite in a season to remember for Girona, who qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history. Despite Girona’s interest in keeping him permanently, Eric García returned through the front door. He played 45 matches and scored five goals, some as important as in the Clásico against Real Madrid. This season he continues on the same path.
