Sports Writing (EFE).– British cyclist Simon Yates, member of the Visma | Lease a Bike team, announced this Tuesday his retirement from professional cycling at the age of 33, ending a successful career in which he conquered the Giro d’Italia 2025 and the Vuelta a España 2018, among other important achievements.
A Thoughtful Decision
Through a statement released by his team, the rider born in Bury explained that the decision was not impulsive. “I have decided to retire from professional cycling. It may surprise many, but it is a decision I have considered for a long time. I felt this was the right time to step aside,” he expressed. Yates recalled that cycling has been an essential part of his life from an early age, from his beginnings at the Manchester velodrome to reaching the top of the world sport and representing his country in Olympic competitions. “I am deeply proud of what I have achieved and very grateful for everything that cycling has taught me. The British cyclist thanked the support received throughout his career, both from the technical staff and his teammates, as well as the constant support of his family. He also highlighted the team’s understanding of his decision to retire.
