Washington (EFE).- The Canadian Masters 1000 was left this Wednesday without any player from the ‘Top 5’ in the ATP world rankings after the second-round elimination of Germany’s Alexander Zverev and the withdrawal of Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime.

The early exits of Zverev and Auger-Aliassime add to the withdrawals of the Italian Jannik Sinner, the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, and the Serbian Novak Djokovic.
Zverev, world number two, top seed in Montreal and the top favorite for the title, was defeated in his debut by the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor (No. 69) by 6(3)-7, 6-2 and 6-4 in 2 hours and 34 minutes.
For his part, Auger-Aliassime, world number four and second seed, withdrew before his debut due to a back injury.
Also eliminated in this second round was the tournament’s third seed and world number 6, the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who fell 6-3 and 7-6(5) to the Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (no. 70).
The highest-ranked player remaining in the competition in Canada is Australian Alex de Miñaur, world number 7 and fourth seed, who did manage to qualify for the third round.

De Miñaur and the American Ben Shelton (No. 10), the defending champion, are the only two players from the ‘Top 10’ still alive in Canada, following the eliminations of the American Taylor Fritz (No. 8) and the Italian Flavio Cobolli (No. 9).
All seeded players were exempt from the first round, so these eliminations occurred in their tournament debut.
