BEIRUT (AP) — Two Israeli soldiers were killed in an explosion in southern Lebanon, the Israeli military reported on Thursday. These are the first Israeli deaths since a fragile truce between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah began nearly two months ago.
Four other soldiers were seriously wounded, the army reported. An Israeli military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in accordance with army policy, stated that “an explosion occurred” when the soldiers entered a site in the village of Majdal Zoun and that the nature of the explosive is being investigated.
Israeli media reported the two deaths a day earlier.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that one person was killed and twelve were injured in an Israeli attack in the town of Tebnine on Wednesday, and another eight were injured in overnight attacks in the village of Burj al-Shemali. The state news agency reported that artillery shelling was also recorded in the areas of Mansouri and Majdal Zoun.
Hezbollah, a group backed by Iran, did not issue any statement.
