Lima.- A Peruvian judge ordered the release of former President Ollanta Humala (2011-2016) this Friday, after the country’s Constitutional Court annulled the proceedings the day before that led to the former leader being sentenced to fifteen years in prison for money laundering in the irregular financing of his presidential election campaigns.
The First National Preparatory Investigation Court favorably granted the request from the former leader’s lawyers for the release to take place as soon as possible.

Humala has been in prison since April 2025, when he was convicted of money laundering in a case that the Constitutional Court has now established was illegal, considering that the money laundering accusation lacked foundation and the concealment of donations for the electoral campaign was not classified as a crime at the time of the events.
