Santo Domingo. — The Dominican Republic takes a historic step towards technological innovation with the announcement by President Luis Abinader regarding the creation of the Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence of the Dominican Republic, during the signing of the agreement between the Government and the American multinational NVIDIA, a world leader in artificial intelligence and accelerated computing.

The president highlighted that this will be the first center associated with NVIDIA in Central America and the Caribbean, conceived as a research, training, and dissemination laboratory open to students, teachers, researchers, and entrepreneurs.

“The goal is for any Dominican, from a school student to a scientist, to be able to learn, experiment, and create technological solutions from our own country,” affirmed Abinader.

The new center will be part of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, with the goal of strengthening the country’s technological sovereignty and applying AI in areas such as health, education, transit, tourism, and security. “In the 21st century, independence is not only defended at the borders, but also in the servers, codes, and rules,” emphasized the head of state.

The president announced that a special monitoring unit will work on the execution of the project alongside the academic and private sectors, while the Instituto Tecnológico de Las Américas (ITLA) will be one of the first institutions to join the talent training program.

“We are sowing the roots of an intelligent, innovative, and sovereign Dominican Republic,” concluded the president.
