Santo Domingo. – The semifinal round robin of the National Summer League experienced an intense weekend, where the Atléticos de Puerto Plata reaffirmed their status as favorites by winning two of their matches and closing with a 3-1 record, being one step away from the final series.
Before their audience at the José Briceño stadium, the Atléticos displayed timely hitting and effective relief on Friday to defeat the Granjeros de Moca 7-1, in a game that was defined by a powerful six-run rally in the eighth inning.
Francisco Fajardo, Adanson Cruz, and Darlin Germán were key players in that decisive attack. Reliever Olbis Parra (2-0) once again shone against the Mocanos and earned the victory; José Martínez took the loss.
In the other game of the day, the Mineros de Bonao defended their home field at the Bebecito del Villar, defeating the Reales de Santiago 8-4.
The Bragañita García stadium, on Saturday’s matchday, was the scene of an electrifying duel between Granjeros de Moca and Mineros de Bonao.

Moca took an early lead with eight runs in four innings, but Bonao fought back to tie the score. The suspense was broken in the ninth inning, when Irving Ortega hit the golden hit that gave the defending champions a 10-9 victory.
Sabriel Polanco shone for the locals, going 5-3, with a home run, a double, four RBIs, and two runs scored. Christopher Familia went 4-3, with a home run, a walk, four RBIs, and two runs scored. Carlos Jiménez went 3-2, with a double, two runs scored, and Joseph Rosa, who, despite not getting a hit, drew walks and scored three times.
Omar Meregildo, Wandy Ciprián, and Michael de León led Bonao’s attack. The win went to José Martínez in relief, while Bawin Colón took the loss.

On that same date, but at the PUCMM stadium (Santiago), the Atléticos extended their sweet moment by defeating the Reales de Santiago 9-4.
Wilmer Vargas led the offense with four hits in five at-bats; Francisco Fajardo went 2-for-5, with a double and two RBIs; Darlin Germán, Brian Sánchez, Noel Chevalier, and José King completed the offensive support. Left-hander Felipe Rodríguez earned the win in relief of starter Juan Luis Martínez; Jean Henríquez was the losing pitcher.
The last day of the weekend, Sunday the 21st, offered an exciting duel at PUCMM, where the Reales de Santiago relied on the pitching gem of Edwin Adon to defeat the Granjeros de Moca 2-1.
Adon worked eight quality innings, allowing just one run with four strikeouts.
The two decisive runs came through sacrifice plays: first with a selection hit by Víctor Luna and then with a fly ball by Luis González.
After the weekend, the Atléticos, with 3-1, lead the round-robin semifinal. The Mineros de Bonao 2-2 and the Granjeros de Moca and the Reales de Santiago finished tied with 2-3.
