Santo Domingo.- The National Youth Orchestra 2 (NYO2) of Carnegie Hall is now in the Dominican Republic to offer two concerts organized by the Sinfonía Foundation, as part of its international tour.
The group, made up of more than 90 young American musicians between the ages of 14 and 16, will perform this Sunday, August 2, at the La Restauración Hall of the Gran Teatro del Cibao and on Monday, August 3, at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater.
As part of their agenda in the country, the members of the orchestra held a series of surprise performances (flash mobs) this Saturday in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo, where they performed pieces for wind and percussion instruments in spaces such as the Plaza de España, Columbus Park, and the Palacio Consistorial.

The performances will be conducted by Mei-Ann Chen and will feature violinist Tessa Lark as a guest soloist.

The repertoire includes “Danzón No. 2” by Arturo Márquez, “Sky” by Michael Torke, “An American in Paris” by George Gershwin, and “Pines of Rome” by Ottorino Respighi.
NYO2 was created by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute with the goal of offering artistic training and international performance opportunities to young musicians from diverse communities across the United States.
During the activities in the Colonial Zone, representatives of the Sinfonía Foundation urged young Dominicans interested in music to attend the concerts and to train at the National Conservatory of Music or other academies in the country.
