Santo Domingo.– The organization Business Action for Education (EDUCA) expressed concern regarding the bill that modifies the General State Budget for 2026, asserting that the initiative reduces the resources allocated to the effective educational spending of the Ministry of Education (Minerd) by RD$2 billion, although it keeps the total amount assigned to that institution unchanged.

According to a technical analysis conducted by the entity, although the nominal budget of the Minerd remains the same, the proposal redistributes part of those funds, modifying the purpose for which they were originally intended.

EDUCA explained that Table 2 of the project contemplates a decrease of RD$2 billion in chapter 0206, corresponding to the Ministry of Education, within the expenditure category. At the same time, Table 3 incorporates that same amount in the same chapter, but under the financial applications line item.

The entity indicated that this change implies that the resources are no longer available to finance goods, services, and educational programs, and instead go to cover financial commitments or operations.

In that sense, he maintained that, although the total Minerd budget does not decrease, the capacity to allocate those resources to educational initiatives is indeed reduced, which could impact the execution of programs and services of the educational system.
