Santiago.- On Monday, the justice system took the first step in the case regarding the murder of a 25-year-old man that occurred during a birthday celebration in the La Otra Banda sector of Santiago.
The judge of the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of this city, Yaritza Cabral, imposed three months of preventive detention this Monday against Noelfy Vélez, alias “El Pollito”, accused of taking the life of his friend Oliver Francisco Ramírez Gómez.
The magistrate granted the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s request and ordered the defendant to serve the coercive measure at the La Isleta Correction and Rehabilitation Center, in Moca, while investigations proceed.
The lawyer for the victim’s family, Valdez Rosario Polanco, stated that pretrial detention was the only measure proportional to the gravity of the crime and necessary to prevent the accused from evading justice again.
Outside the courthouse, José Francisco Ramírez Reyes, father of the deceased young man, demanded that the case not go unpunished.

According to preliminary investigations, the tragedy occurred when the victim and the accused were sharing with other people at a birthday party that ended up turning into a scene of violence, where Ramírez Gómez received the wounds that caused his death.
The file also states that, after committing the crime, “El Pollito” fled and remained a fugitive until he was located and arrested by members of Interpol and the National Police, when he was allegedly trying to take refuge in Haiti to escape the judicial process.
