Santo Domingo.– The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, RD Vial, and the General Directorate for the Beautification of Roads and Circumvallation Avenues of the Country (Digecac) announced the start of an ambitious reforestation plan that includes the planting of 10 million plants along roads and avenues across the national territory over the next two years.
The initiative seeks to restore vegetation cover, improve the roadside landscape, and strengthen environmental conservation in strategic corridors of the country, prioritizing high-traffic roads of great importance for national connectivity.
Among the roads and highways that will be intervened are the Azua Bypass, the Coral Highway, the 6 de Noviembre, Juan Pablo II, and Duarte highways, in the section corresponding to the North Bypass, as well as the Ecológica Avenue, among others.
The announcement was made during a meeting led by the Minister of Environment, Paíno Henríquez, together with the Executive Director of RD Vial, Hostos Rizik Lugo, and the Director of Digecac, Rodolfo Valera Grullón, who reaffirmed the commitment to work in a coordinated manner to execute the project.

“As a Government, we seek to develop a plan that can restore greenery to the country’s roads,” stated Henríquez, highlighting that the Ministry has the necessary technical and logistical capacity to promote a nationwide tree-planting program.

As part of the strategy, the institutions will create a technical commission that will be responsible for defining the work plan, coordinating interventions, and supervising compliance with the established goals for reforestation.
For his part, the director of RD Vial assured that the entity has the personnel and resources required to begin the planting days, while the head of Digecac made the institution’s technical and operational teams available to support the execution of the project.
During the meeting, the Vice Minister of Forest Resources, José Elías González; the Director of Protected Areas, Carolina Alba Ferreras; the Director of Reforestation, Elías Figuereo; the Administrative and Financial Coordinator, Rayne Paulino Estévez; as well as representatives from RD Vial and Digecac also participated.
