Santo Domingo.– Political leader and historian, Héctor Rodríguez Pimentel, presented his book “1994 Crisis: Turning Point of Dominican Politics,” a work that analyzes the events that marked one of the most transcendental moments in the country’s democratic history.
The commentator explained that the publication coincides with the 32nd anniversary of the 1994 crisis, which “began as an electoral conflict due to allegations of fraud,” and evolved into a geopolitical crisis that involved the Dominican Republic, the political situation in Haiti, and the interests of the United States in the region.

Rodríguez maintained that the resolution to that conflict was possible thanks to the maturity demonstrated by the main political leaders of the time, highlighting the dialogue between former President Joaquín Balaguer and political leader José Francisco Peña Gómez, who “managed to reach an agreement that avoided a further escalation of the crisis”.
He pointed out that this understanding allowed for the promotion of a constitutional reform that strengthened democratic institutions and laid the foundations for the process of democratic consolidation.
