Santo Domingo. — The president of the Board of Directors of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (
INDOTEL), Guido Gómez Mazara, reported that they will begin this Monday a campaign on the certainty of information on social networks, since 62 percent of the content that is disseminated on digital platforms is false.
In a press conference held in his office, Gómez Mazara lamented that 70 percent of the people who receive this false information reproduce and forward it, so INDOTEL will begin a massive campaign to raise awareness among the population about the correct consumption of this information.
He said that the telecommunications regulatory body is going to contribute to raising awareness about the need for networks in the Dominican Republic to be built on the basis of truths, not lies, since he himself has been a victim of misinformation, alleging that he had a terminal illness.
“How many people with judicial processes of any kind, have not been condemned on the networks and when a judicial decision comes, they are released?”, questioned the official, underlining that motivated by that concern, from INDOTEL they will make their contribution with the launch of an orientation campaign on the certainty of information on the networks.
“We cannot continue navigating in this sea of falsehoods and little lies,” expressed Gómez Mazara, who explained that to confront this wave of misinformation, the institution he directs will begin this Monday, within the framework of the Book Fair, the aforementioned campaign, emphasizing the damage that this evil produces in children, who are easy prey for any malicious person.

The president of the Board of Directors of INDOTEL emphasized the commitment to make a sensible contribution so that social networks are not a tool of lies, but are used to guide the population correctly.
Likewise, he urged political parties to stick to offering information with true data so as not to contribute to the establishment of narratives that have nothing to do with reality, since this does not constitute constructive opposition.
In that vein, Gómez Mazara presented official and international indicators that show a positive performance of the national economy, noting that the country registered an economic growth in the first 7 months of the year of 2.7% and generated more than 121 thousand jobs.
