The lawyer of the former Ecuadorian vice president Jorge Glas, Sonia Vera, reported that she expects that by the end of January at the latest, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) will extend the provisional measures granted in October, ordering the Ecuadorian State to immediately hospitalize and place Glas under house arrest.
Vera indicated that, after her transfer to a maximum security prison in Santa Elena in November, they filed a request for an extension of measures to protect her physical and mental health, as well as her rights to integrity and life.
A private medical examination concluded that Glas requires immediate hospitalization, which prompted a corrective habeas corpus that was denied by a judge. The defense seeks to exhaust national instances and present all the evidence before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, considering that the detention conditions put his health at risk.
