Santiago. – The renowned former baseball player Luis Polonia arrived excitedly at the premiere gala of his biographical film “El Rey del Hit” (The Hit King), held this Tuesday in his hometown of Santiago de los Caballeros, the city where he was born and where he began the long road that would lead him to become one of the most influential Dominican players in history.
The film, which premieres in theaters on October 30th, not only reviews the former player’s sporting achievements, but also honestly narrates, from a deeper and more personal perspective, the obstacles, mistakes, and lessons that marked his life, this being, according to Poland himself, much more than a biographical film.
“Thanks to this, the legacy remains. Sometimes one does all their things and leaves, and only mental memories remain. But this, this film, is something I always had in mind,” he said upon arriving at the premiere of his film.
Accompanied by his family, friends, former baseball teammates, and legendary figures from national public life, Polonia explained that one of his greatest desires was that his story could serve as a guide for others. Especially, for young people who today feel they have no opportunities.
“This is a beautiful message for many young people, many people who believe they have no future, that they have no chance. They will realize, through this project, that it is possible. If they have the will, they can also achieve it,” he added.

Baseball figures like Tony Peña, Miguel Tejada, Stanley Javier, Edwin Encarnación, and Winston “Chilote” Llenas attended the gala to show their support. Polonia told De Último Minuto how much it meant to him to reunite with those with whom he shared so many years and unforgettable moments throughout his career.
“They are my brothers, truly they are. Their support is very valuable to me. We fought many years together, and seeing so many stars here who came to give me that support makes me proud. It’s something I will always carry in my heart,” he added.
Also present were authorities such as the mayor of Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez, the governor Rosa María Santos, and the businessman Santiago Matías. All highlighted the importance of preserving stories like that of Poland, not only for its sporting impact, but also for its example of resilience for the youth who identify with her example of life.

Poland acknowledges that it was not an easy path. In his message, he insisted that many of the young people who today face difficulties can find hope in their history. Not because everything was perfect, but because, despite everything, it managed to rise.
“You know there are many young people who think they can’t. But I know that with the message of this film they will realize that they can achieve it, if they focus. I think no one had more setbacks than me to get where I got. And yet, I made it.”
The film was directed by Eddy Jiménez, and produced by Camino Films and Hamilton Films. It combines intimate moments, impactful testimonies from legendary personalities, and scenes that reflect the athlete’s life.
Poland expresses that more than a tribute, The King of Hit is the vision of a man who decided to look back to help others look forward. A testament that mistakes don’t have to define anyone, and that discipline and faith can build new opportunities.
“This is a positive message that can change many lives. May our people take it as something that drives them. Because if I achieved it, they can too,” he expressed.
