Santo Domingo. – In a climate of deep indignation and mourning, residents and neighbors of the child Nauriel Misael Medina Pérez, whose murder has shocked the community, expressed their absolute support for the mobilization called by the organization La Nueva Orden, led by Ángel Vásquez.
Following yesterday’s march, the community members expressed their support for the 10-day ultimatum given for Haitian citizens in an irregular situation to leave the area. The neighbors’ statements reflect a feeling of lack of protection and an urgent demand for justice for what they describe as an atrocious crime against a defenseless minor. María, one of the local residents, was emphatic in pointing out that the community feels helpless by the central government. “Thank God we have an Angelo, because as president and authority we are orphaned,” she stated, also criticizing political figures who, in her opinion, do not prioritize the safety of the Dominican worker. For her part, Sofía, another neighbor affected by the tragedy, described the pain that overwhelms the sector, assuring that the child did not go anywhere and that the community feels “swollen” with pain due to the impunity of the crime.
