SANTO DOMINGO.- The Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) will choose its new presidency national on August 9, during an assembly corresponding to the XXIV Ordinary Convention of the organization.
The information was provided this Monday by the party’s national Organization secretary, Deligne Ascención, who gave details of the convention process calendar and explained that the secretary general, the vice-presidencies, and the deputy general secretariats of the PRM will also be elected that day.
“August 9th will be the assembly in which the presidency and the general secretariat at the national level will be chosen, with the respective vice-presidencies and general sub-secretariats,” he stated during a press conference.
He indicated that previously, on August 1st and 2nd, the leadership of the sectoral fronts will be chosen, while between August 11th and 15th, the assemblies of the overseas sections will be held to elect their respective authorities.

Likewise, he maintained that the process will conclude on September 5th with a large assembly in which the elected boards will be ratified, the party’s national commissions—including those for Statutory Reform, Internal Elections, and Control and Discipline—will be chosen, and all authorities elected during the convention will be sworn in.
Ascención highlighted that the internal process has been carried out with a “spirit of unity, order, discipline, and participation from the territories,” ensuring that so far it has been “crowned with absolute success.”
The election for the PRM presidency is taking place amidst expectations regarding who will assume the leadership of the ruling party. The current president of the party, José Ignacio Paliza, recently revealed that he has promoted the proposal for the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, to assume the presidency of the PRM, although he clarified that the president has not yet made a definitive decision.

Subsequently, in an interview granted to a media outlet, Abinader confirmed that he is evaluating that possibility, so he has not yet defined whether he will aspire to lead the political organization.
