Santo Domingo. – The Plenary of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) will issue its decision this Friday on the appeal for cassation filed by Rosa Amalia Pilarte, former deputy of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) for La Vega, sentenced to five years in prison for money laundering, in addition to the seizure of 13 properties acquired with funds allegedly from drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, if the sentence is upheld, the ruling would become final and immediately enforceable, which would mean that Pilarte will have to serve five years in prison in a penitentiary, in addition to losing the assets seized by the authorities.
Furthermore, there would be no other national judicial instance to appeal the decision, so their legal team is betting on the annulment or modification of the ruling.

Likewise, the sentence was handed down in May 2024 by the Second Criminal Chamber of the SCJ, under privileged jurisdiction, as Pilarte still held the position of deputy at the time of the trial.
