Senator calls for prudence in the case of the girl Brianna Genao and criticizes media speculation

Santo Domingo.– Senator Ginnette Bournigal, representing the province of Puerto Plata, spoke out about the case of Brianna Genao, a three-year-old girl, calling for prudence, responsible handling of information, and allowing the authorities to conclude the investigative process without external pressure.

Bournigal expressed concern about what he considered an excess of comments, versions, and speculations that, in his opinion, have generated alarm at the national level, especially among children. “We must be tactful, prudent, and make fewer comments. They have alarmed the children of the country. They have scared them with so many fables and so many know-it-alls and inspectors of the case,” he stated.

The legislator maintained that the case has been treated as a media spectacle, without allowing the competent authorities to act with the necessary serenity. “Without letting the relevant authorities act and give their final verdict. This is very calmly.”

Referring to the family and community context where the event occurred, Bournigal explained that it is a situation located in Barrero, Puerto Plata, a community where, as he said, hardworking people live, although he acknowledged that complex realities exist.

“It’s a family matter, from a location called Barrero de Puerto Plata, where there are many good people, but there are people with mental problems who remain in the family,” he affirmed. The senator highlighted that the Public Ministry and judicial authorities are advancing towards a conclusion of the case, directly mentioning the Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso, Judge Olga Diná, and the provincial authorities. “There’s a conclusion almost ready. All the authorities are immersed in this situation, but I ask for prudence and less speculation,” he indicated. Bournigal warned that rumors and unconfirmed versions have generated a climate of tension that has even put people involved in the process at risk. “They even wanted to kill one of them. Everything has been said,” he pointed out, while questioning reports in the media about alleged attacks on family members and lawyers without conclusive evidence. Likewise, she regretted the psychological impact that the handling of the case has had on the children.

“They have scared the children. There were children who didn’t want to go to school,” he expressed, adding that the handling of the event has sent a negative social message. “A very harsh message has been created, not to trust one’s own family. That’s horrible,” he maintained. Finally, the senator considered that, although the case has a seriousness that justifies national attention, she insisted that it must be addressed responsibly. “They have killed the girl two hundred times. It’s a national drama, yes, but we must let things flow and allow the authorities to conclude their work,” he concluded.
