Oviedo.– The four crew members of a fishing boat on fire off the Asturian coast were rescued this Monday by another vessel and transferred to San Vicente de la Barquera (Cantabria), Salvamento Marítimo has reported.
The fire occurred about eight nautical miles from La Franca beach, in the council of Ribadedeva, bordering Cantabria.
At 9:00 a.m., Salvamento Marítimo received a call alerting them to the presence of a drifting liferaft, as well as a fishing vessel that was on fire.
The four crew members were rescued by another fishing boat and taken to San Vicente de la Barquera, where an ambulance was waiting, although they were initially in good condition.
The burning fishing boat is the Nuevo Monteveo, with a length of thirteen meters and based in the port of Bustio, in Ribadedeva.
For its part, the Gijón Maritime Rescue control center mobilized a boat to carry out extinguishing work.
