United Nations .- UN Secretary-General António Guterres, announced this Wednesday that he has appointed the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, as co-chair of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Advocates group.
Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley, appointed to this position in 2022, will continue to co-chair the group alongside Sánchez, according to a statement released by the UN.
“I commit to continue working to ensure that the implementation of the SDGs translates into opportunities, well-being, and prosperity for all people, leaving no one behind, while taking care of our planet for present and future generations,” Sánchez stated in the note.
According to the Spanish leader, the 2030 Agenda “is the roadmap that allows us to address the great challenges of our time and contribute to global sustainable development,” and for this reason it is necessary to “accelerate action and appeal to our collective responsibility to move forward.”
The UN, for its part, defined Sánchez as “a dynamic leader on key issues, including financing for development, education, equality, and climate action,” and highlighted that, under his leadership, the fourth International Conference on Financing for Development was held in Seville in 2025.
