Washington.- U.S. President Donald Trump stated this Tuesday that U.S. military forces have “total control” of the Strait of Hormuz, amid tensions with Iran and Washington’s efforts to keep the strategic maritime passage open.
“We have total control of the Strait of Hormuz. We control it; nobody else, just us. Our navy is incredible and things are going great for our country,” Trump declared to reporters at Joint Base Andrews (Maryland), upon his return from Ohio.
Trump also asserted that the situation with Iran “is going great,” although he once again expressed his distrust of the Iranian authorities.
«I do not trust Iran, I am the last person who would trust Iran, they have lied to me constantly», said the president, before insisting that the United States currently maintains control of the strait and that Iran does not have it.
Iran threatens to keep Hormuz closed
In contrast, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezai, stated this Tuesday that the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened until the United States ends the war and naval blockade against Iran, releases its frozen assets, and accepts a ceasefire that also includes Lebanon and Gaza.
The Strait of Hormuz, between Iran and Oman, is one of the world’s main routes for oil and gas transport and has become one of the main flashpoints in the conflict between the United States and Iran.

Trump had previously indicated that the reopening of the strait constitutes one of the priorities of the negotiations with Tehran. EFE
