Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated this Monday when asked about the bombing by his Army that this weekend left about 40,000 people without electricity in the Russian region of Belgorod, that it is a response to Russia’s continued attacks on Ukraine’s energy system and a way for the Russians to understand “the price” of the war.
“The Russians don’t even understand the price of all the blackouts and nights in the dark, of all the hardships that the citizens of Ukraine suffer and experience in times of war,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian president added that Ukraine does not intend to attack the enemy’s civilian population. “But they must understand the price of this,” he emphasized during a press conference with Dutch Prime Minister Dirk Schoof, held in Kyiv, as reported by the Ukrainian agency Unian.
Zelensky defended Ukrainian attacks on energy infrastructure in Russia – which have focused primarily on refineries so far – as a response to the bombings that Russia has carried out since the beginning of the war against the energy sector in Ukraine.
Furthermore, he highlighted the need to undermine Russia’s main source of income to continue the war, the exports of energy resources, with this type of attacks.
