Army detains over 15,000 undocumented Haitian operatives at the border during the month of August

Santo Domingo. – During border operations for migration interdiction, against smuggling, citizen security and support to other State institutions carried out in August, the Dominican Republic Army executed important seizures and detentions, strengthening control and security measures at different points on the border. According to the ERD report, these operations were carried out during the period between August 1st and 31st, by members of the institution. In terms of immigration interdiction, 15,625 Haitian nationals with irregular immigration status were detained, who were handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) for the repatriation process. In other operations, different types of merchandise that were introduced into the country illegally were seized, including 2,251,385 units of cigarettes, as well as alcoholic beverages and other products. During the operations carried out, 247 vehicles used in illicit activities were also seized, including 3 buses, 10 trucks, 5 vans, 14 cars, 14 SUVs, 10 minibuses, and 191 motorcycles. In that same period, 70 people were made available to the Public Ministry, 65 for trafficking in undocumented persons and 06 for smuggling.

The Army reaffirms its commitment to continue working firmly and in coordination with the other institutions of the State, to confront the illicit activities that affect security and order in the border area.
