Femicide, homicides, and violent deaths leave a tragic toll over the weekend

Santo Domingo. – A femicide, several homicides, and other violent acts left a tragic toll over the weekend in different parts of the Dominican Republic, where at least five people lost their lives in circumstances that are being investigated by the authorities.

One of the cases occurred in the municipal district of Hatillo Palma, Montecristi province, where Nelki Alejandrina Rodríguez García died while receiving medical attention after being wounded with a bladed weapon, allegedly at the hands of her romantic partner, Alain de Jesús Guzmán Castellano, 30 years old.

Guzmán Castellano was arrested by National Police agents and is identified as the alleged perpetrator of the assault. The case is being investigated as a possible femicide, in an event that once again highlights violence against women in the country.

Three women die in violent incidents

During Sunday’s events, the deaths of two other women were also reported in violent incidents recorded in different provinces.

In the Los Mangos community, Salcedo municipality, Hermanas Mirabal province, Génesis Brito lost her life during a shootout in which two other people were injured.

According to preliminary reports, the shots were allegedly fired by several hooded individuals, who fled the scene immediately after the incident. The circumstances that led to the confrontation remain under investigation.

While in Santiago de los Caballeros, Karolain Altagracia Taveras Morel died, in the midst of an incident that also left another person injured.

Unofficially, it was reported that Taveras Morel was traveling on a motorcycle with other people when they were struck by an SUV. The preliminary version indicates that moments earlier, an argument had allegedly taken place between the occupants of the vehicle and the group of young people in the parking lot of an entertainment venue.

According to that version, after leaving the establishment, the young people were allegedly pursued by the SUV and subsequently struck. The driver of the vehicle is a fugitive and is being sought by the authorities.

Two men die in separate incidents

Violent events also claimed the lives of two men over the weekend.

On Chichí Olivo street, at kilometer 12 of Los Frailes, a man identified as Randy was killed, having received a stab wound to the chest during an alleged altercation with another man.

The deceased resided in the Brisas del Este sector. The alleged attacker fled the scene and is being sought by the authorities.

Meanwhile, in the La Punta sector of Moca, Espaillat province, an argument between family members ended in the death of a 26-year-old man identified as Javier Ayendy, known as “Nano”.

The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday. According to preliminary reports, the young man allegedly had an argument with his uncle, Francisco Lizardo, 39, under circumstances that are still being investigated.

Ayendy was reportedly seriously injured with a bladed weapon during the altercation and subsequently died as a result of the assault.

Authorities are investigating the cases

The various incidents recorded over the weekend are under investigation by the authorities, who are seeking to establish the exact circumstances in which they occurred and determine responsibilities.

While some cases already have identified or detained individuals, others remain open with alleged perpetrators still at large.
