Santo Domingo, RD – The young Dominican Juan Alejandro Lizardo Sarante, 19 years old, made history by becoming the first Dominican to assume the position of Secretary General of the third edition of the Global MUNers International Conference, held in New York between April 13 and 18, 2025.
This event is considered one of the most important and influential for the youth of Latin America and the Caribbean, and took place in part at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN).

The conference brought together hundreds of young leaders from over 100 countries, from elementary school students to university students, who participated in a plural and constructive dialogue on the most relevant global challenges. This event marked a historic alliance between Global MUNers and the American organization National Model United Nations (NMUN), the largest, oldest, and most diverse inter-university United Nations conference in the world.
As Secretary General of the conference, Lizardo Sarante played a fundamental role in leading the international team, selecting the discussion topics, and coordinating the development of each committee. His leadership was key to ensuring a reflective and proactive environment in the debates, promoting the exchange of ideas and innovative solutions to global problems of great importance.
Lizardo, who stood out for his organizational capacity and his commitment to international dialogue, expressed his pride in representing the Dominican Republic at an event of such magnitude. In addition, he highlighted the importance of creating spaces for young people to get involved in decision-making on major global challenges, and reaffirmed his commitment to continue promoting the active participation of youth in international politics.
