Santo Domingo.- The National Drug Council (CND) commemorated its 37th anniversary this Thursday with a Eucharist at the Primate Cathedral of America, where the institutional commitment to drug prevention and control in the Dominican Republic was renewed.
During the ceremony, the president of the CND, licenciado Alejandro de Jesús Abreu, gave a speech in which he spoke about the crucial role of the family as the “first line of defense against substance use.”
The head of the Council referred to the growing threat of new psychoactive substances (NPS), while highlighting the efforts of President Luis Abinader’s government to contain their advance through early warning systems and comprehensive social protection.You may be interested in: National Drug Council issues alert regarding the presence of pink cocaine in the country
“On this 37th anniversary of the National Drug Council, we firmly renew our commitment to the national policy of drug prevention and control, under the visionary leadership of President Luis Abinader,” Abreu expressed.
During his speech, Abreu called on the various social sectors, on the entrepreneurs, to facilitate the first job, on the educators, to teach with passion, and on the parents, mothers and guardians, to create healthy and coherent homes.
The mass was attended by government authorities such as Jesús Chu Vásquez Martínez, Consul General in the city of New York, the lawyer and political leader Vinicio Castillo, representatives of international organizations, members of civil society and collaborators of the National Drug Council, who joined in prayer for a Dominican Republic free of drugs.
