Santo Domingo.- Opposition lawmakers lashed out this Tuesday against President Luis
Abinader for the alleged fraud in the National Health Insurance (
SeNaSa), after his statements in LA Semanal, while the ruling party defends the anti-corruption policy promoted by the president.
In that sense, they criticized the government’s double standard, which initially denied the crisis in the state-owned insurance company, attributing it to a lack of resources. However, after public pressure and revelations from recent journalistic investigations, President Abinader announced that he had ordered an investigation in November 2024.
Investigations indicate that a network of corruption and irregular contracts has put the institution in an unprecedented financial crisis, with a growing deficit and increasingly deficient services for millions of members.
The scheme, which would have mobilized more than 41 million pesos in illicit transfers, also involved companies linked to officials.
