People’s Force Deputies will not vote in favor of loan for Line 2 Metro extension

Santo Domingo.- Deputies from the People’s Force Party will not vote in favor of the loan agreement for an amount of 178,374,339 dollars to expand the capacity of the Santo Domingo Metro Line Two as requested by President Luis Abinader. Representative Alcibiades Tavárez said that if the current administration continues the debt race, they will lead the country to the precipice, unleashing mobilizations of the masses affected by the increase in the fiscal deficit.

“We have said that if the debt race continues, this country will have a total collapse. It is inconceivable that we have a debt that is already close to 80 billion dollars, more than 60% of the Gross Domestic Product and that now 178 million dollars are added is a crazy race of loans, that is, we will not vote for that loan”, said Tavárez.

In that vein, Representative José Alberto Jiménez said that the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) is only efficient “at getting borrowed money”, however, they are inefficient at solving the country’s problems.

“They are efficient there. To get borrowed money they are number 1, to solve the country’s problems, they always get zero”, he pointed out.

The president’s request considers it essential to reinforce that Metro corridor, because the entry into operation of Line 2C will increase the demand for the section that goes from Concepción Bona on the Ramón Matías Mella highway to María Montez. Meanwhile, the Finance Committee is in charge of evaluating the project before recommending or not its approval in the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies.
