Santo Domingo. — The National Convergence against social security theft denounced the alleged stalling of investigations related to an alleged embezzlement case at the National Health Insurance (SENASA), claiming that behind the lack of progress there could be political pressures aimed at protecting individuals and companies identified in the process.
The collective stated that this situation aims, according to their declarations, to guarantee the impunity of those who allegedly benefited from “tens of billions of pesos” from the public health system, which they described as a serious infringement on the right to health of the Dominican population.
In its complaint, the organization maintained that those named include businessmen and managers linked to leniency agreements, including Eduardo Read Estrella, Cynthia Acosta, and Heidi Pineda, who—according to the complaint—were allegedly beneficiaries of said agreements.
Likewise, they pointed to other business actors such as Fred Oscar Imbert and Deleste S.A., as well as Lowel Fernandez Whippel and Farmacard, alleging that these companies had handled resources of around 8 billion pesos.

The complaining organization also questioned what it considers inconsistencies in judicial action, arguing that in other similar cases arrests have been made based on the testimony of those involved, while in this file —as they state— they would not have proceeded with the same speed against people who had received funds.

“The entity will not remain passive in the face of this double crime against humanity,” the collective indicated in its statement, insisting that they will continue to demand investigations and sanctions for all those allegedly responsible.
So far, the competent authorities have not offered any additional public response regarding the new allegations of the case being stalled.
