Vice President gives a conference in SPM on the importance of free trade zones

The Vice President pointed out that free zones generate thousands of jobs and attract investment, while SMEs reflect the best of Dominican talent. San Pedro.- The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, specified that the government has concentrated significant efforts on promoting free zones and SMEs, as they are two engines that are moving the economy of the provinces forward. Raquel Peña offered these statements during her conference “The strength of what is close: communities that drive the country”, at the Universidad Central del Este (UCE), organized by the Ministry of Women, where she emphasized that it is in the closeness with the people where the engine of the heart that mobilizes the government lies.

“Esa fuerza es la que nos impulsa, como gobierno, a seguir trabajando sin descanso para devolverle a cada municipio el dinamismo”,

manifestó.

Peña explained that, to boost the aforementioned sectors, the government is building a development model that involves the work and active listening of neighborhood councils and community centers, unions and associations.

He highlighted that the Eastern region represents 12% of the national Gross Domestic Product and has around 54 free zone companies in operation that export to the world, and thanks to them, more than 9,000 people have direct employment, which represents the livelihood of thousands of Dominican families. In that same vein, she added that the majority of those jobs are held by women who have a decent income, support their households, and actively contribute to the development of their communities.

expresó la vicepresidenta.
