Santo Domingo.– The mother of one of the three teenagers under investigation for the death of a 14-year-old minor at a National Council for Children and Adolescents (Conani) foster home questioned the center’s security measures this Monday and called for a thorough investigation to clarify the case.
The woman, whose identity is omitted because it is a process involving minors, stated that she had not seen her daughter for four months and that she found out about the accusations when she went to the Judicial City of Santo Domingo Este.
“I am very outraged. Neither Conani nor anyone else called me to inform me of what was happening,” she expressed.
The mother explained that her daughter was admitted to the foster home due to a situation of vulnerability and stated that she handed her over to the authorities with the intention of protecting her. Likewise, she questioned the supervision within the center.
“Where was Conani’s security? Where were the people in charge of taking care of those girls?”, he/she stated.

The statements were made after Magistrate Nicole Mejía issued a 30-day precautionary measure against the three minors investigated for the death of a 14-year-old pregnant teenager, identified by the initials N.P.P.
The decision was adopted by the Children, Girls and Adolescents Court of Santo Domingo East, which ordered that the adolescents serve the measure at the Salomé Ureña Institute for Young Ladies while investigations proceed.

According to the authorities, the teenager died in the early hours of last May 24th inside the foster home located in the municipality of San Antonio de Guerra, after allegedly being assaulted by the three inmates.
The mother of one of the accused stated that her daughter denies any involvement in the incident and has asked for a thorough investigation into what happened inside the center.
Following the incident, Conani reported the preventive suspension of the personnel responsible for the surveillance and accompaniment of the minors, as well as the administrative intervention of the temporary shelter to review and strengthen protection and supervision protocols.
The case remains under investigation as the victim’s family demands answers regarding the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
